IGNOU LAW Admission 2026| Last Date, Fee & Syllabus

IGNOU LAW Admission 2026 has started for the January session from 16 December 2025. Admission will be initiated for various certificates and diploma-level courses such as CLP (Consumer Protection), PG Certificate in Cyber Law, and PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights.  IGNOU does not offer law courses at the degree level but provides specialized law-related courses useful for legal assistants, professionals, or students. The minimum duration of the certificate law courses is 6 months, and the diploma courses are 1 year. Eligibility for a PG diploma usually requires applicants to be graduates in any discipline, and have 10+2 or equivalent or BPP from IGNOU for the certificate program. IGNOU law fees range from ₹5,000 to ₹9,000, depending on the course.  IGNOU law syllabus will focus on legal principles, laws, case studies, and recent developments in the field. Study materials are updated and designed for distance learning. Students have to apply on the IGNOU SAMARTH portal @ignou.samarth.edu.in/ by 31 January 2026.

IGNOU Law Admission 2026

Now, the school runs distance education programmes which include Certificate, Diploma, PG Diploma, and PG Certificate courses in Law. Indra Gandhi National Open University invites individuals to pursue law programs such as PGDIPR, PGDCJ, DIPP, PGCCL, PGCPP, CHR, CCP, CAHT, CIHL, and CCLBL through flexible distance learning. IGNOU has opened the admission page for the Law course. Individuals are advised to fill out the application.

Students who hold a bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university can apply to this course. Students can complete their law degree in 1 to 3 years with affordable course fees of INR 10,800.

Note – IGNOU Law Diploma and Certificare Course is provided in  Distance Mode, but LLB and LLM Degrees are not provided in  Distance Mode. As per UGC guidelines.

About IGNOU Law Admission 

Indira Gandhi National Open University offers several law- related programmes through its School of Law, but it does not provide a full professional law degree such as LLB or LLM. The Bar Council of India does not permit LLB or LLM in distance mode. Instead candidates can pursue certificate, diploma and postgraduate diploma courses in legal fields like Human Rights, Consumer Protection, Paralegal Practice, Criminal Justice, and Intellectual Property Rights. IGNOU Post Graduate Certificate in Cyber Law (PGCCL)

Course Duration: This course is 6 months to 2 years.
Course fee: The course is Rs 8,400 plus registration and development fee.
Eligibility: Graduates in the discipline or 4th and 5th year students of the 5-year integrated LLB course

Post Graduate Certificate in Patent Practice (PGCPP): This is a 6-month course, the fee is Rs 9,600, available to graduates in Science, Medicine, and Technology, or those in the later years of an integrated LLB Program.

LLB Program Eligibility from IGNOU

To be eligible for an LLB course at IGNOU, students must complete their bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 45% marks (42% for OBC, 40% for SC/ST). IGNOU does not offer LLB and LLM courses in regular and distance education, but you can pursue diploma and certificate courses from IGNOU.

Eligibility Criteria for IGNOU Law Admission

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers several law programs at diploma and certificated level, it does not offer traditional law degree such as LLB or LLM. IGNOU provides courses like PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Right, Criminal Justice, Cyber Law, Certificate in Consumer Protection, Human Rights and more. Candidates who are interested in continuing their education in law from IGNOU, must meet the following criteria before applying for admission. 

PG Diploma/ Diploma in Law Programs: To be eligible for IGNOU’s any diploma or PG diploma law programs, candidates generally need to hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university. IGNOU has no fixed passing marks requirements but it is advisable to secure at least 45% aggregate marks at graduation level. 

Certificate Law Programs: Basic eligibility requirements for certificate law programs from IGNOU is to have completed 10+2 or equivalent examinations from a certified board of education. 

Entrance exam is generally not required for any law programs, the admission is based on academic score of the last qualifying examination.

IGNOU Law Course Fee Structure

The fee for the IGNOU Law course depends on the category of students and the specialisation of the course; it ranges from INR 10,800 to INR 15,000. Students can pay the course fee online (Netbanking, Credit/Debit cards, UPI, and other options)

IGNOU Law Courses Study Material

Law study material is provided by Indira Gandhi National Open University. Students can either get the IGNOU law study material directly from the regional centre or request the institute to send it to their address via courier. Additionally, for those who prefer online access, students can go to the university’s website to download the IGNOU Law study material.

IGNOU Law Entrance Test

Students who have completed grade 12th with a minimum score of 50% in the relevant subject are eligible to take admission in the IGNOU Law Entrance Test. Admission for the IGNOU Law course is based on the student’s board exam/ previous course scores and marks achieved in their graduation. There is no requirement for any entrance exam for this course. Admissions are based on merit.

How to apply for IGNOU Law 

  1. The very first step is to identify the course and the desired specialization.
  2. To apply for the course, individuals have to visit the official website of IGNOU.
  3. Click on the online fresh registration to make a unique ID and Password.
  4. Log in with a password and start the admission process.
  5. Candidates have to upload all the documents carefully, including Aadhar/ Pan Card.
  6. Before the application submission, applicants are advised to check all the details and click on the submit button.
  7. Download/ print the submitted form for future reference.  

IGNOU LAW admission offline form

Step 1: Students should visit the nearest IGNOU study centre.

 Step 2: Submit the form to the student service cell that provides for the law course. 

Step 3: Fill the application form carefully for the subjects.

 Step 4: Submit the photocopies of the required documents. 

Step 5: Submit the form along with the application fee of Rs 300.

How to Download an Assignment

Step 1: Visit the IGNOU official website.

Step 2: There are many sections on the taskbar menu. Click on “Student Services.”

Step 3: Find the “Downloads” menu. This is the student section to access the IGNOU Law course.

Step 4: The Link for “Current Assignment Portal” will appear in a list. Click on the list.

Step 5: Search the IGNOU Law Course Subject Code.

Step 6: Save it on the device as a PDF file and download it.

Career Paths

Individuals who hold an IGNOU Law degree can go into various Job fields like –

Advocate – Law students’ first choice is to work as an advocate, where they can practice and develop their legal skills in the courts. An advocate can earn INR 4.5 Lakhs per annum.

Government Services – Law graduate students are free to apply for renowned government jobs like legislative council and legal advisor with a salary of around INR 15 Lakhs per annum.

Judiciary – It is the most reputed and high-paying sector for Law students. They can understand the judicial system of the country and can get around INR 16 Lakhs per annum.

Private Companies – Law students can join the top private companies as legal advisors and can help solve the legal issues of a particular company. Through legal advisors in private companies, individuals can earn approximately INR 6.9 Lakhs per annum.

Q: Can I pursue LLB through IGNOU distance education?

Ans: No, the Bar Council of India does not recognise LLB degrees obtained through distance education. To fulfil the legal requirements, students must complete an LLB through regular, on-campus education.

Q: Is LLB available in IGNOU?

Ans: No, IGNOU doesn’t provide LLB courses. But IGNOU offers various law-related PG Diplomas and Certificates courses.
